Malta has changed a lot with regard to animal welfare and this is thanks to the government, the various organisations and to all the dedicated and loving persons who offer to make the life of our four-legged friends better.
With regard to strays, however, there is an important link that is at present missing and this is trapping and transportation of the strays for spaying/neutering.
Happy Paws are offering free spaying/neutering of all the strays brought in by appointment at their Marsa clinic and all this for a small nominal annual membership fee of €15. However, there is no service available to trap the strays and to transport them to the clinic and back to their own pick-up point.
There are some people who do it themselves due to their golden heart and love for animals but the amount of strays around Malta and Gozo is overwhelming for them.
If this service would be organised and be provided I believe our strays would have a much better life as fewer kittens and puppies would be around and in danger and the available food will be shared by smaller amounts of strays.
