Although it has become routine for companies to sponsor fundraising activities as part of their corporate social responsibility, it is perhaps less normal to hear of one non-profit making organization helping another.

But that is exactly what happened recently when the Socjeta Sant'Andrija Villa Lija AD 1880 learned through a chance conversation that its honorary president, Ian Castaldi Paris, was taking part in this year's LifeCycle Challenge.

The club does regular fundraising for its own needs but dedicated its efforts to raising money for the challenge's beneficiary – the Renal Unit – and managed to collect €250. These were presented by the club's president Joseph Portelli and secretary Stephen Azzopardi to the Challenge's committee at the club premises in the presence of the cyclists and back-up, following one of their Sunday morning training rides.

Over the past years, the LifeCycle cyclists have gone to over 25 countries – raising over €1 million - and dozens of cyclists are already training for this year's challenge, which will see them cycle 2,000km through 7 countries next August, taking them from Prague to Sarajevo.
