Two young men were caught trying to burgle a home in Żejtun and were arrested after a chase across the rooftops of neighbouring houses, the police said.

A call was received at police headquarters that a burglary was probably taking place at a residence in Falkunier Street.

Policemen rushed to the street and found signs that the front door of the house had been forced open. Since they suspected that intruders could still be inside, they asked for reinforcements.

As they were searching the house, two men ran up to the roof in a bid to escape. Personnel from the Mobile Squad and district police followed the men who jumped over the roofs before they were eventually apprehended.

The two suspects are aged 18 and 20 and hail from Mqabba, the police said. They were taken away for questioning.

The incident is similar to one in Sliema last month when two men were caught on a Sliema roof after allegedly trying to burgle a house, with another man apprehended in what the police believe was the getaway car.
