Hibs Medsea made up for relinquishing the women’s league title this season when they claimed the last honour of the season after beating Luxol 63-51 in the Super Cup yesterday.

Hibs, who saw their five-year reign as champions ended by Luxol, surged into a 30-11 lead by the fifth minute of the second quarter and never looked back.

Luxol did manage to bridge the gap to 36-20 at lemon time and continued to show signs of improvement after the break.

However, it was Hibs who had the final say as they profited from some hesitant Luxol shooting to cruise to victory.

Maria Desira, of Hibs, was the game’s top scorer with 19 points.

In the men’s league, Athleta drew first blood in the final play-offs as they beat Luxol 81-65 in Game One of the series.

Joe Galea’s men held the edge in the first two quarters as they opened a 39-27 lead at half-time.

When play resumed, Luxol failed to apply any kind of pressure on their opponents and Athleta had little difficulty in cruising to a comfortable victory.

Luxol’s Peter Apcev was the leading scorer with 32 points while Addison Bonnici, of Athleta, potted 29.

The second match from the final series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
