The fifth and final game from the friendly series between the Chairman’s team and the Captain’s side was played last weekend.
The Chairman’s team, who had already secured the series in the previous match after taking a 3-1 lead, batted first with a rather strong line-up, one would think.
As fate would have it, they were bowled out for 66 runs with some good bowling from Gary Rees, who took four wickets, and Mike Caruana, who took three.
Justin Brooke stood tall, top-scoring with 16 runs. He batted hard but seeing too many of his team-mates return to the pavilion so early left its effect and he was finally stumped.
Javed Shah’s 12 runs off 13 balls was one other action of note in those first innings as Mirza Jatinder blasted the only six of the game.
The Captain’s team revelled in the chase run, even though they had to deal with the scare of losing Sam Aquilina in the very first over, superbly stumped by John Grima.
That was to be the main highlight from the Chairman’s point of view, however as Nowell Khosla scored 18 runs, including two 4s, Ronnie Sacco added 15 and Mike Caruana 21.
For the Chairman’s team, Joy Ghoseroy took three wickets.
Today, Marsa CC take on the HMS Liverpool team in a 20-over game starting at 3.30 p.m.
