Andrei Zerafa, 28 of Marsaxlokk, and Roderick Montesin, 23 and Melvyn Montasin, 21 both of Siggiewi, this afternoon pleaded not guilty to stealing seven sacks of copper wire from BTY Scaffolding in Racecourse Street, Marsa.

The theft is alleged to have taken place at about 8.30 p.m. on Friday.

The three were taken to court this afternoon.

The Montesin brothers also pleaded not guilty to having breached bail and probation conditions while Melvyn Montesin also denied relapsing.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit explained that the three men were caught red handed on site when people noticed them entering the premises and informed the police. The three were arrested by members of the Mobile Squad.

Magistrate Clare Stafrace Zammit heard how the three men have a drug addiction problem and are unemployed.

She refused bail to the Montesin brothers but granted bail to Mr Zerafa against a personal guarantee of €3,000 and a deposit of €200.
