Vodafone managers meet at roaming plenary in Valletta

More than 100 Vodafone roaming managers from around the world recently met in Malta to review the company’s global roaming strategy.

The Vodafone Roaming Plenary, held at the Old University Building in Valletta, brought together representatives of Vodafone’s mobile roaming teams, a community which focuses on making sure Vodafone customers can use their mobile phones when they travel.

Many national platforms and processes need to work together in real-time, across different time zones and cultures, to deliver Vodafone-quality standards.

At the centre of this year’s conference was the increasing usage of data phones and applications while travelling, including SIM cards embedded into satellite navigation devices and next- generation cars. As the central roaming platform for such devices, Vodafone Malta plays a pivotal role in this cutting edge market.

Vodafone Malta chief executive officer Balesh Sharma said the latest trends were showing voice and data roaming were becoming a critical part of the operator’s customer needs.

Vodafone roaming services chief executive officer Dave Smithwhite added that Vodafone Malta had been at the centre of roaming innovation within Vodafone for several years, citing the company’s role in maritime roaming and embedded mobile roaming. Vodafone roaming services enable more than 180 mobile operators to deliver mobile roaming across the world.
