Neptunes player Steve Camilleri has extended his contract with Italian Serie A1 team RN Bogliasco for another two seasons.

The adventure with Bogliasco has been a very fruitful one for this Maltese all-rounder who has already spent three seasons with the Genoa-based club. He finished as the team’s top scorer in the first two seasons and was second in the campaign just over, having always featured among the top goal-notchers in the Italian league.

Moreover, Camilleri played a key role in Bogliasco’s march to fourth place in the league standings and qualification for next year’s LEN Trophy.

“It is very satisfying to know that my contribution to the team is being appreciated,” Camilleri said.

“It has been a very good and fruitful experience playing among some of the world’s best performers and I wish I can keep up this learning curve.”

It is interesting to note that the Maltese player has reached 154 goals in the three years playing for Bogliasco.

When asked about his scoring record, Camilleri replied that this was the result of teamwork.

“Also the final position of my team was the best ever obtained in the last 30 years,” he added.

“Although I was approached by other clubs and also a top team in Hungary, I decided to stay with Bogliasco as I believe there is a long-term project to improve the team’s standings in the league.”

Camilleri will now be an integral part of Neptunes, the club that has launched his career as a budding 15-year-old. He helped the Balluta Bay team win last season’s cham-pionship, also finishing as top scorer with 59 goals, after he had been part of the Reds’ outfit which won other top local honours over the past years. Camilleri was Player of the Year in 2007.

He is expected to start the new summer season on Tuesday as Neptunes are due to play against Ta’ Xbiex in the opening match of the preliminary round.
