Shift from heroin to cocaine use
Many drug users shifted from using heroin to abusing cocaine as the latter became more available and cheaper, George Grech, the clinical director of the government agency Sedqa, said.
The shift was not from heroin to cannabis use as erroneously reported in Thursday’s paper.
Sedqa staff are worried since cocaine is not perceived as a dependency drug. Besides, there is no method of treatment for cocaine addiction, like there is methadone for heroin, and, therefore, overcoming the addiction takes more will power through therapy.

"Sedqa staff are worried since cocaine is not perceived as a dependency drug."
So True! Cocaine is being promoted as a drug for parties, weekend, weddings or village festa. This is so deceiving. Though not physically addictive it is extremely addictive psychologically, I dare say worse than heroin. It also drives people psychotic, and despite everything when it's a habit it's extremely expensive, more than heroin.
This shift from heroin to cocaine is one of the main reasons for the increase in violent crime. A police officer one described it this way "a heroin addict tries to steal the handbag of an old lady. If she resists he will probably run away. A cocaine addict will turn violent, and might end up killing her"
