The Church’s sure and true direction (1)
It seems that Lino Spiteri, in The Morning After And Life Beyond, has assumed that the Gozitans were cowered into submission by Bishop Mario Grech’s talk. But I want to assure him that the Gozitans (at other times known for their independent thinking) voted No not because they were frightened by the words of Bishop Grech. Be very very sure. They know how to go about making choices.
The first fundamental choice they did was to make all other life choices in the light of the teachings of Jesus Christ as interpreted by our mother Church as expounded by the legitimate authority which in our case is Bishop Grech. Therefore when they were called upon to choose what type of family they want for future generations they chose the family standing stable on an indissoluble bond. They chose to ignore the Yes lobby’s fuzzy arguments which were highly blown out of proportion by a media strongly biased and even antagonistic to the Church. They chose not to risk taking a wrong turning in the name of liberalism and misplaced compassion.
I believe that Mr Spiteri’s diatribe against our Bishop Grech is not a sincere evaluation. It is the outpourings (one can grasp a hint of anger in them) of an intelligent person who has realised that where there is a strong leader ready to sacrifice his all for his flock in order to impart the teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, then the flock, not blinkered by fuzzy arguments and a virulent media, will keep to the truth and act accordingly.
And I can assure him that although perturbed by the result we are in no way overwhelmed. We know that in whom we believe. Jesus remains the truth, the way and the life and it is him we trust.

Madam what you are saying is that you were told how to think... hardly an endorsement of God's gift of intelligence is it ?

The result of the referendum shows that the people of Gozo understand the Truth. They were not enticed by sentimental arguments. They are blessed in having a CATHOLIC Bishop who gives them a sure and clear direction according to the teachings of Christ and His Church.

Bad news; there is no Father Christmas,no fairies at bottom of garden, and no god,not a christian one or hindu or buddist or any other supernatural being looking after you.You are on your own so stop being so gullible. I would concede that there may have been a chap with the gift of the gab wandering around the middle east 2000 years ago,but he couldn't walk on water or turn water into wine.Time to grow up and stop being led by a rag-bag collection of dubious stories cobbled together known as the bible.

Even thus sugar-coated, it still sounds a lot like "cowered into submission by Bishop Mario Grech’s talk"

It seems as if only those who voted yes have brains to think with.
As I said elsewhere, we seem to have a major problem because 62% of the electorate did not vote yes and hence seem to be brainless.
