Yes vote should open way for gay rights – MGRM
The divorce referendum outcome “marks a watershed in the evolution of Maltese society” and it is now time for “meaningful and substantial” gay rights to be introduced on the island, according to the Malta Gay Rights Movement.
In a statement yesterday, the MGRM “warmly” welcomed the result, saying it showed that “Maltese society is altruistic and cognisant of the realities and needs of minority groups within their midst, and exhibits the qualities of compassion, tolerance and acceptance.
“This marks a watershed in the evolution of society, one in which civil liberties can start to flourish, and individual rights and responsibilities are afforded to other minority groups.”
In particular, the movement said, it was time for meaningful and substantial rights to be enacted in favour of the local LGBT community, which would reflect the needs and aspirations of LGBT couples and families, that were inclusive and truly brought the LGBT community within the embrace of society.
Cyrus Engerer, one of the movement’s members, was actively supporting the pro-divorce campaign.

What about the 48% minority which voted against? Do they not count?
This was a referendum on divorce and does not represent any kind of swing towards any other issue.
Amazing what spin any group can put on any result they like.

Absolutely nothing against gays, in fact some of my best friends, although i ain't, but one thing at a time...boys and also girls.... It took Malta 2000 years to get divorce approved.
Just imagine what a rumpus will come out from the No camp, if after this bashing in the referendum we start discussing gay marriages. Why not, is my comment, who am I to judge.
Well whatever, surely not under Gonzi's reign. He already has to answer to his uncle Mikael Gonzi for what happened during his watch. Just imagine anything more controversial.

Is there some mistake or a misprint here ?
How can someone who supported the pro-divorce , supported the breakup, the weakening of marriages now fight for Gay marriages ?

Very well said. Now imagine if this was said, before the referendum, by someone from the NO Movement!
