The Labour Party has hit out at the increase in the price of petrol, announced yesterday, as well as the increase in the maximum price at which gas cylinders may be sold.

Utilities spokesman Marlene Pullicino said the increases were exaggerated and came when international oil prices were generally going down.

The increases, she observed, came less than 48 hours after the prime minister said the governemnt would focus on improving conditions for families.

The increases, she said, would fuel uncertainty among families and businesses. Yet the members of the Cabinet were comfortably well off, having received a €500 per week raise.
