The Malta Police Association has written to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi asking in what stage was the process which should see it transformed into a union.
Pointing out that police officers were still being denied the right to join a union, the association said that according to a reply to a parliamentary question given in January, the process for the association to become a union should have been concluded in the first three months of the year.
It said that to-date, it had still not been consulted on the law which would regulate this historical, required and much-awaited development.
Earlier today, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin held a news conference on the same topic, pointing out that it had not yet received a reply to a letter it had sent 13 months ago.
