A 63-year-old man was critically injured and a woman of 75 seriously hurt when they were hit by a car in Attard yesterday.

The pair from Msida were crossing busy Mdina Road at around 2.30 p.m., several metres away from a zebra crossing and traffic lights, when they were run over by a Peugeot 407 driven by a young woman on her way to Rabat.

The victims were rushed to hospital in two ambulances escorted by police motorcyclists. The 27-year old driver from Rabat was in shock.

Residents and people working in the neighbourhood told The Times the road was prone to traffic accidents. Some said a speed camera was essential, as at times, residents themselves were in danger of being run over by fast-driven vehicles.
