Every working day from 7.20 to 8.20 a.m., close to the Fleur-de-Lys roundabout, traffic chaos and congestion occurs. There are no stop or give-way signs whatsoever. Sentiments seem to supersede the rules. And I have several other examples:

Further along from the Bank of Valletta centre, just opposite St Michael’s School, an auto dealer takes possession of the road by double or triple parking. In Qormi, by the side of the Flamingo establishment, one meets up with double parking every day on this busy main road.

Opposite Oxford House at Mrieħel there exists a disguised roundabout/central strip that causes frequent serious car accidents. When are traffic lights going to be installed?

Driving down Mtarfa Hill, a traffic jam occurs very often because “somebody” irresponsibly decided to allow vehicles to turn abruptly right to Ta’ Qali Crafts Village, thus causing frequent car accidents. The solution is that these drivers should travel all the way down the road and then turn in towards Ta’ Qali at the roundabout between Mġarr and Mosta.

Every Sunday afternoon, opposite St Cajetan church in Ħamrun, several red minibuses park for a long time, even on the traffic lights themselves! Chaos and disorder reign; nobody is in charge because on a Sunday, laws are not binding. Again in Ħamrun, in St Paul’s Square, just opposite the police station, cars park on the zebra crossing and sometimes even double park. Several cars park opposite Msida parish church, in the direction of Birkirkara, along the pavement on the left up to the traffic lights leading to the University, causing congestion.

Who is in charge of clamping down on all such irregularities: Transport Malta, the local wardens or the police? Solutions are urgently awaited.
