A pair of French jet fighters taking part in Nato’s campaign in Libya were forced to land in Malta yesterday morning after running low on fuel.

The Mirage air force jets left the island later in the afternoon.

They are the fourth pair to land in Malta since the United Nations last March approved a resolution to impose a no-fly zone and protect civilians after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi started killing his own people.
