Allow me to thank Yves Calì for shedding new light on two of Malta’s post-independence national emblems (The Sunday Times, May 22).

I will include the so-far unknown information he kindly shared with your readers when my article is re-published as a chapter in a forthcoming volume of my collected works.

But allow me also to correct Mr Calì’s misreading of my article. He writes that I “erroneously attributed the design of the 1964 coat of arms to Emvin Cremona”. I did nothing of the sort – I never attributed that emblem to Mr Cremona.

I just recalled that I remember Mr Cremona discussing with my father Vincenzo some sketches which showed the Independence emblem, and merely asked if the two were discussing the design for an Independence shield of arms, or a design for a subsequent postage stamp which included that emblem.
