I would like to comment on what various officials of the Valletta Football Club are saying about the U Bet FA Trophy final held at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali, on Sunday between Valletta FC and Floriana FC. It is being said that the free kick conceded by referee Paul Caruana to Floriana FC in the dying minutes of the match (scored by Ivan Woods in the 88th minute) was no foul and that this was an (apparently) harsh decision.

One could ask these Valletta FC officials whether the excessive criticism directed against the referee is only a (not-so-hidden) ploy with the aim of intimidating referees in future Valletta FC vs Floriana FC matches.

The Malta Football Association should take note.
