UCIM Co Ltd, the local representative for Fiat, has been appointed official representative and distributor for Jeep.

Managing director Francesca Mamo said the agreement was an “important step” for UCIM Co Ltd, saying the Jeep brand had never been marketed as there never had been an official representative for it in Malta.

“The importance of this development is further augmented by the fact that this is the first direct positive impact of the recently announced Fiat-Chrylser deal,” Ms Mamo added.

“This is an added opportunity for us to penetrate the local SUV segment more aggressively: Jeep is the original SUV and a leader in this segment. We hope to be local leaders in this segment too.”

Jeep will be showcased within UCIM Co’s Alfa Romeo showroom in Valley Road, Msida, which is currently undergoing major refurbishment. The project is to be completed between June and July when the new Jeep models arrive in Malta.

Meanwhile, the company’s parts, service and warranty managers have been deployed to Jeep Europe’s headquarters in Turin for training.

Jeep marks its 70th anniversary and the launch of four major new products this year, including the refreshed Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited.

The new Grand Cherokee and new Compass will also be launched this year.

Jeep is an American brand owned by Chrysler Group LLC and is distributed in more than 120 countries.

More than 15 million Jeeps have been produced and distributed worldwide, with more than six million on the road.

The brand is Chrysler Group’s top seller in markets outside North America, making up 50 per cent of the company’s international sales.

Following the global alliance signed between Fiat and Chrysler in June 2009, Jeep commercial and distribution operations in Europe were gradually transferred to FGA.

Jeep operations in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK are today fully integrated in the FGA structure.

The integration process in Europe saw the creation of a new Jeep distribution network that consists of 430 Jeep dealerships. The new Jeep European network will be fully operational from June when the sales and distribution reorganisation process carried out over the last 12 months will be successfully concluded.
