Four players from the Junior Academy of Badminton Malta have just taken part in a singles and doubles tournament involving Sicilian players coming from a number of regional clubs.

The competition took place in Catania. The Maltese players who travelled to Sicily were Matthew Abela, Nigel Degaetano, Kyle Sciberras and Owen Grech.

They were accompanied by Edmond Abela, one of the coaches of the Junior Academy which was set up about two years ago by Badminton Malta with the assistance of the Maltese Olympic Committee. The contingent was led by John Attard, Badminton Malta’s general secretary.

The Maltese youngsters gave their all during the tournament and returned home with some positive results.

Grech and Sciberras, in particular, finished as runners-up in the doubles tournament after losing the final 11-21, 15-21 against home pair Alberto Ferretto and Alfio Cavallaro.
