Shackleford (picture) edged Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom by three-quarters of a length for a wire-to-wire victory Saturday in the 136th Preakness and spoil the runner-up’s Triple Crown bid. Shackleford, an unfancied longshot who was fourth in the Derby, held off Animal Kingdom’s charge from the outside down the stretch to claim the 1 3/16ths-mile showdown in 1min 56.21secs, with Astrology third. Shackleford claimed the $600,000 winner’s prize from the $1 million purse.
