CIMEN. On May 14, at Mater Dei Hospital, to Dawn née Calleja and Tayfun, God’s precious gift of a son – TROY. Thanks be to the Risen Christ and His Holy Mother. Heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff.

Congratulations
Adrian Scott Gavre, son of Michael and Maureen Gavre of Leesburg, Georgia, USA, and grandson of Mario and Marie Gatt of Sliema, student of Lee County High School, Leesburg, Georgia, will be graduating from high school with Honours of May 28, 2011. He will be attending the University of Georgia in Atlanta next autumn and will be majoring in chemistry.

Obituary
BRINCAT. On May 17, at Mater Dei Hospital, MAGDALEN of Ħamrun, widow of Karmenu, aged 82, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Dolores, Jane and Tessie and their families, her brothers Joe and Paul and their families, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for St Cajetan parish church, Ħamrun, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
CUTAJAR BECK. On May 21, JOSEPHINE (Jo), widow of Dr John-Gerald, passed peacefully away, aged 102. She leaves to mourn her loss her only daughter Cicely, widow of Ronald Buhagiar, her grandchildren Anna-Maria and Gerald and his wife Stephanie, her beloved great-granddaughter Chiara, nieces, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated tomorrow at 8 a.m. at Msida parish church followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. The family thank the staff at St Vincent de Paul residence, Mother Theresa Ward 2, for their dedication and care.
SALIBA. On May 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH, former director of Olta Aluminium Ltd, aged 68, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Yvonne, his children Josef and his wife Stefania, and Sandra and her husband Richard, his grandchildren Bernice, Nicole, Kelly, Steven and Matthew and their fiancés, his brothers and sisters Tessie and her husband Joe, Frans and his wife Carmen, Violet and her husband Ronnie, and John and his wife Rose, their families, his wife’s family, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2 p.m. for St Cajetan parish church, Ħamrun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.
SCEREB. On May 17, in Texas, USA, JAMES, aged 96, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his wife Melanie and his nephews and nieces of Malta. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
SPITERI. CARMEL, B.Sc. (Economics), BA (Psychology), MA (Pastoral Psych.), MCL, JCL (Canon Law), passed peacefully away in Ottawa, Canada, on April 29, at the age of 86. Son of Salvatore and Carmela Spiteri and the eldest of 11 children. Survived by his wife Josephine, children Myriam and her husband Christopher Doylend, Vivienne, Tony, Tessa and Chris and his wife Jane, his 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Born in Malta, he immigrated to Canada in 1968 to pursue a career at Statistics Canada. This followed eight years in Malta with the Department of Finance. He devoted his life to higher learning. A graduate of the London School of Economics, Carleton University (Ottawa), University of Ottawa and St Paul’s University (Ottawa), he obtained his designation in Canon Law in his 70s. He served as the Maltese honorary consul in Ottawa and acted as financial consultant to the Central Bank of Malta from 1993 to 1998. Funeral Mass was held at Holy Cross Church, Ottawa, on May 3.
SULTANA. On May 20, SisterGIOVANNA, aged 86, went to meet her Risen Lord at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Tal-Virtù, Rabat. She leaves to mourn her loss the religious of the Society of the Sacred Heart, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral was held yesterday.
