Joanne Grima (The Sunday Times, May 8) has once again criticised the time-limit parking scheme introduced by the Ta’ Xbiex council. In so doing, she writes from her narrow perspective and overlooks the interests of permanent residents.
Our revised parking scheme was introduced specifically to provide more parking spaces for residents and the increasing number of employees in commercial offices migrating to Ta’ Xbiex. Our first consideration was to create a balance between the claims of established residents and the staff of commercial offices.
Established residents have unlimited rights as to where to park. Non-residents, including office staff, have ample parking space in unlimited-time bays. It is, however, unreasonable for office staff to expect unlimited-time bays next door to their office.
Regarding waste separation, Ms Grima seems to be unaware that bring-in sites in Ta’ Xbiex are as accessible to the business community as they are accessible to established residents. Such bins are set up for not only glass but specifically for paper, cardboard and metal.
If she is as environment-friendly as she claims to be, she should co-operate by using all services rendered by the council and observing waste disposal rules.
