Planting trees on Earth Day
HSBC staff members reading to plant 30 trees at Xrobb l-Għaġin.
About 30 trees were recently planted at Xrobb l-Għaġin on Earth Day.
The HSBC Malta Foundation initiative kicked off at the bank’s Żabbar branch and spread to other branches in the area, collecting funds for the tree-planting project aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Alex Mizzi, HSBC’s southern area director, said tree planting was important to effectively change the environment into a better place.
The trees were planted at Nature Trust Malta’s Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park and Centre of Sustainable Development, which opened recently.
“Our NGO respects the work carried out by the foundation to help combat climate change and improve sustainability,” said president Vincent Attard.
Nature Trust is participating in a climate change programme, which is also running in 17 other countries, supported by the foundation and Eco Schools.
NTM, the local Foundation for Environmental Education representative, runs Ekoskola in Malta.
