The University of Malta and the University of Maryland, US, have agreed to offer a dual Masters degree in transcultural counselling starting in September.
The programme is entitled ‘transcultural’ to reflect the international nature of both the programme lecturers and expected student population.
The 18-month programme will provide students with both extensive traditional counsellor training, as well as a wider exchange of cultural viewpoints and experiences on contemporary counselling theory and practice.
It will be delivered by local and US lecturers at the University’s newly refurbished Valletta campus. Students who successfully complete the programme are awarded degrees from each university.
Students are eligible to apply for Strategic Educational Pathways Scholarships and Malta Government Scholarship Scheme funding, the applications for which close on June 15.
For more information on the programme visit www.um.edu.mt/imp/content.aspx?id=246023 or e-mail info.imp@um.edu.mt.
A short summer school in transcultural counselling to introduce the MA programme will be held from July 7 to 10 at the University’s Valletta campus.
The summer school will enable professionals and students in psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, social work and youthwork to share reflections and experiences.
Prof. Courtland Lee, president of the International Association of Counselling and co coordinator of the MA in Transcultural Counselling, will deliver the summer school’s inaugural address.
