Malta will be represented by Alex Borg and Tony Drago in the Snooker World Cup which will be played at the World Trade Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, between July 11 and 17.

There will be 20 two-man teams in the competition with players coming from all continents, making it a truly global event. Eight teams will be seeded based on the position of players in the world rankings.

As host nation, Thailand will have two teams.

The nations qualifying for the World Cup are Wales, Scotland, England, China, Australia, Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Thailand, Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Malta, Poland, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Egypt and UAE.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the 2011 European Championships will be played in Sofia, starting on June 7.

Malta will be represented by Borg, the national champion, and runner-up Simon Zammit.

In the Bulgaria championships, the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association will also have Roberta Cutajar playing in the women’s event.
