‘Drunk’ woman attacks police
What started as a report about an overdose turned out to be very different for two police officers when they were attacked by a woman in a drunken stupor.
The woman, Nathalie Felice, 26, from Cospicua, had moved back to her father’s house after experiencing marital problems. On Tuesday afternoon her family called the police thinking she had suffered an overdose.
Police sources said she then got into a fight with her sister and when the police arrived she attacked them too. The officers found that she had only been drinking, the sources said.
During her arraignment yesterday, Ms Felice pleaded guilty to attacking WPC Lisette Agius and PC Kenneth Vella Gregory, slightly injuring Ms Agius and damaging Mr Vella Gregory’s watch. She also admitted to disobeying orders.
Magistrate Anthony Vella jailed her for two years after taking into consideration her early admission.
Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.

If this young woman was having marital problems and was therefore under great pressure it would have been better if she was given counseling and help.Perhaps getting drunk was due to her situation. If she was not a relapser, two years are certainly too harsh a sentence.

I never believed in relapser philosophy - If a penalty is not proportionally tied to the crime then penalties will either be too lenient or too harsh.
While I understand that police officers have a tough job to do - sending those of impaired judgement to jail for two years is 'not' going to solve anything. If anything it places this woman in a position where she is vulnerable to further corruption, courtesy of the justice system.

too harsh????? one might have a different opinion if the injured persons were their own relatives. Did you not stop to consider what these police officers have to face every working day when dealing with these sort of incidents????

Two years for attacking individuals while in a drunken stupor.
I would like to hear Magistrate Anthony Vella's professional opinion on this matter, now closed. Does he feel that the two years in jail term will make a better citizen of this person or simply put her on a fast track down the road of criminality?
While I understand that it can be important to be demonstrative in showing what is or is not acceptable, but I do hope that this woman is not being made an example of. If the later is true then a reconsideration is in order.

2 years does seem a bit harsh if she only slightly injured the police lady and damaged the policemans watch, in comparison to recent stories in the times to others who have got off very lightly for worse offences. Not excusing what she did, and she deserved to be punished, just think 2 years seems a bit harsh.
