Siena free Conte to join Juventus

Former Juventus captain Antonio Conte is free to join the club as coach if they want him, according to his current club Siena.

Conte spent the majority of his playing career at Juve and has just guided Siena to promotion to Serie A.

Juve are widely expected to let coach Luigi Delneri go following this weekend’s final match of the season after another campaign of under-achievement.

Conte, who previously coached Arezzo, Bari and Atalanta, has another year on his Siena contract but is reported to be on Juve’s list of potential replacements for Delneri.

And Siena sports director Giorgio Perinetti said the club wouldn’t stand in the young coach’s way if the Turin giants do come knocking on the door.

“I only hope that (Juve’s) decision is made soon because we have to plan for next season,” Perinetti told reporters.

“Our president respects Conte’s wishes and is happy to let him realise his dream.

“Conte has done very well with Siena but it’s up to Juve to decide if he’s the right coach for them.

“I know it’s his dream to coach Juve and I hope he realises it, either now or in the future.”
