A two-day workshop for health care professionals on basic competence in spiritual care will be held on June 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m . at Mount St Joseph retreat house, Tarġa Gap, Mosta.

It will be led by Fr Eckhard Frick, SJ, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Philosophy in Munich, who runs a practice at a clinic and directs workshops in psycho-drama according to the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola.

The workshop is especially aimed at doctors, nurses, vol-unteers with the terminally ill, medical students, paramedics, psychologists and psychiatrists.

Participants will practise the FICA (faith, importance and influence, community and address) spiritual assessment interview approach suggested by Christina Puchalski and discuss how to decide upon interventions in the Maltese context.
