Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park, Mellieħa, will be participating in the European Day of Parks, under the umbrella of the Europarc Federation.

The European Day of Parks aims to promote the value of protected areas and encourage public support for such sites. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Volunteering –Nature Needs You’.

The theme was chosen to fit in with the European Commission’s declaration of 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering.

Two events are being organised to celebrate the occassion. The first will be a day of volunteering at the park on May 24 from 9 a.m. onwards. To participate, e-mail info@majjistral.org.

The second event will be a guided walk at the park on May 27 at 6.30 p.m. Participants will walk from Golden Bay to Rdum Majjiesa. As the walk ends after sunset it is advisable to take a torch. To participate, e-mail walks@majjistral.org.

The Majjistral Nature and History Park was set up in 2007 and is managed by the Heritage Parks Federation consisting of three voluntary NGOs: Din l-Art Ħelwa, Gaia Foundation and Nature Trust (Malta).
