A group "Le B'Rispett Lejn il-Ġejjieni" was launched today at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta.

The group is made up young people representing the diversity within Maltese society.

Main spokesman Andrea Pace said that the group was united in the common belief that society will not be better off with the introduction of divorce.

It believed that the best recipe for marriage was one that promoted a stable society where marriage was based on permanency.

The group said that although it was true that the breakdown of marriage caused much pain and hardship, the introduction of divorce would not alleviate this pain but would lead to an increase in the breakdown of marriages.

The introduction of divorce would also lead to a new form of poverty. This was because parties afflicted with divorce would not necessarily have the required financial independence and would need further social assistance.
