The Divorce Movement is insisting that clips it used featuring part of an interview the founder of the Cana Movement, Mgr Charles Vella, had given a television programme in March last year did not go against the substance of what Mgr Vella had said.
The movement, which has been stopped from using the clips by the Broadcasting Authority after Mgr Charles Vella sent a legal letter through his lawyer, said it will be filing an urgent constitutional case in court on Monday.
Addressing a news conference this afternoon, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said that the movement heard the whole interview Mgr Vella had given Norman Hamilton on Bla Agenda and it did not, in any way, twist anything of what he had said in the spots it produced.
The interview, he said, had spurred him into presenting his private members' motion.
In the interview, Dr Pullicino Orlando said, Mgr Vella had given a human aspect to the church, he had show he knew that there were many couples in difficulty who should not be turned away. Fr Vella had also called for a debate in Parliament on the issue.
Both Evarist Bartolo and Dr Pullicino Orlando said they had utmost respect for Mgr Vella and they were positive that he had been pressed into sending the BA the legal letter.
Dr Pullicino Orlando also referred to statements made recently by the Children's Commissioner and said it was unacceptable that certain institutions were used to pass on false messages. These institutions made use of public funds and were spreading false propaganda taking the country back into the 1980s.
The movement said that it will be uploading the whole interview Mgr Vella had given on Bla Agenda on YouTube later on today.
They pointed out that he had made similar statements in an interview with The Sunday Times.
The movement appealed for help saying it was running low on funds.
