An empty 33-foot fishing boat carrying the Tunisian flag has been taken ashore at Xlendi this morning.

The boat was found abandoned about half a kilometre outside Xlendi yesterday afternoon, sources said.

The sources said that a substantial amount of fishing equipment as well as blankets and sugar cubes were found on the ship.

Although a search for any possible immigrants was carried out on land this morning, police believe it is unlikely that the boat was carrying migrants.
