Dingli third in Favara race

Gianluca Dingli, of BRM Virtu Ferries Racing Team, has just taken part in the Trofeo Superstars Rotax at the Pista Internazionale Concordia in Favara, Sicily.

The Trofeo Superstars is held over three rounds in different circuits in Italy with the final race now planned for October 2.

During the Saturday morning session, test runs were held in wet conditions which hindered the performances of all racers, including Dingli.

Racing Team manager Mario Lena tuned Dingli’s BRM kart to wet set-up but conditions improved in the afternoon and the track was declared dry.

Dingli registered the fastest times in practice as the team worked hard to fine-tune the kart and engine for the main races on Sunday.

But the bad weather returned, rain coming down heavily during the pole qualifiers, forcing drivers to do six laps instead of the usual 10. Dingli finished fifth as some racers also opted out when the wet conditions showed no signs of abating.

Dingli, however, had a superb race, particularly in the last few laps. He moved into third place to finish on the podium.

“This was a very tricky race in difficult conditions,” he said.

“There was a lot of teamwork going on before and during the race to come up with the right set-up as we had to keep up with the rest of the competitors.”
