Robby Albarado, the jockey who suffered a broken nose and missed his chance to ride Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, will receive a payout from the winning jockey and owner.

Barry Irwin, majority partner in the Team Valor International group that owns Animal Kingdom, said that winning jockey John Velazquez has agreed to pay Albarado a share of his income from the victory.

Irwin said the owners will match the undisclosed amount of money that Velazquez gives Albarado.

With Animal Kingdom claiming a top prize of $1,411 million last Saturday, Velazquez’s 10 per cent share as jockey was $141,180.
