Two young teenage sisters and their cousin are expected to be charged today with ganging up and stabbing a 14-year-old girl who allegedly had a fling with the boyfriend of one of the girls almost 18 months ago.The 14-year-old girl, of Żebbuġ, was seriously injured when she was stabbed three times in the back with a penknife on Wednesday evening in St Nicholas Street, Valletta.

The girl was out with her 15-year-old friend, from Valletta, when they met the small group of two sisters, aged 14 and 16, and their 15-year-old cousin at around 9 p.m., police sources said.

She was attacked by the three girls because the 14-year-old sister was still angry that her boyfriend had betrayed her with the victim, almost 18 months ago, the sources said.

After stabbing her three times, they escaped. The victim was taken to Mater Dei Hospital.

Investigating officers arrested the three girls on Wednesday.
