A couple who live next to The Villa brasserie that forms part of Le Meridien in St Julians said the hotel had illegally placed umbrellas outside and ignored two judicial letters pointing this out.
In a judicial letter, Marin and Erika Hili said their house and the restaurant were scheduled buildings and any work done to the building would have to be sanctioned by the planning authority.
Four large umbrellas had been placed on the veranda of the restaurant and were acting as the tent that had been removed by the planning authority, the couple said.
Furthermore, only recently an outdoor disco was held on the veranda without permission and the noise caused intolerable inconvenience to them. Although a police report was filed about the noise, no action was taken, they claimed.
The couple held the restaurant, the Malta Tourism Authority, the planning authority, the Police Commissioner, Bajja Developments Ltd and Benny Camilleri and 40 Main Catering Establishment Ltd responsible for any damages.
