An armed and hooded robber made off with about €2,000 in cash from a man waiting at the St Paul’s Bay post office in the second hold-up at this Maltapost branch in three weeks.
At about 11.15 a.m. yesterday, the thief entered the post office in Sqaq tax-Xema and ordered a 33-year-old man to hand over the cash before fleeing.
No one was injured in the incident. Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani appointed experts to help her in the inquiry.
Last month about €3,000 were stolen from the branch in another hold-up.
The two major unions, Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin and General Workers’ Union, urged Maltapost to upgrade security at its branches.
