The Malta Union of Teachers said today that it had ordered a strike at Mcast tomorrow because it could no longer tolerate foot dragging on longstanding issues with the college.
It said that a number of teachers were being denied promotion, despite being suitably qualified, and a number of part-time teachers had been taken on as self-employed, which was scandalous, especially when Mcast was a state institution.
Learning Support Assistants were also being paid a very low salary.
It accused the management of arrogance and said that the strike would be the start of more industrial action unless the situation was rectified.
Meanwhile, Mcast said it was seeking another conciliation meeting with the union and remained open for talks. It urged the union to call off tomorrow's two-hour action.
