Mcast said today that it could not understand why the MUT has ordered a two hour strike for tomorrow, when the basis of agreement on closing pending issues was reached at a conciliation meeting yesterday.
The college said the MUT had rejected a request made to it by the government's central bargaining unit, and Mcast itself, to submit new proposals for a collective agreement , yet it expected immediate conclusion on isolated parts of the same collective agreement.
Mcast said the industrial action had been called without valid reason and would only result in time wasting for thousands of students as they prepared for their end of year exams.
It hoped the strike directive would be withdrawn immediately.
