Linguistics Circle meeting
The University’s Institute of Linguistics is holding a meeting at Dun Mikiel Xerri Lecture Centre Room 217 on May 18 from 4 p.m.
Maria Mifsud will present ‘A Study of Superordinates and Hyponyms in Maltese Sign Language’.
The aim of this presentation is to shed some light on how Maltese sign language (LSM) expresses different levels of abstraction. It will show how signs are used in LSM to express specific meaning and more general and abstract meaning.
The talk will be given in English. No knowledge of Maltese sign language is required.

*If Language did not exist, would we humans fall in love as humans do or would we love as animals do?
*Are the emotions associated with human love, the result of endearing terms in a language. ?
*Without a language, I believe we would be conscious of things we call nouns, but would we be conscious of verbs and adjecitves and propositions? I guess withoout language we would live in a world of nouns and how nouns before us are transfered form one position to another, but we would not be knowledgeable of the finer tunig brought about by language due to other people's experiences we would only be conscious of our own limited experiences.
*When we see the world in silence, are we speaking a silent language describing the sequence of events before us?
* am I daft?
