An off-duty police sergeant who intervened to stop an argument in Sta Venera this afternoon was slightly injured and had his car stolen and set on fire, the police said.

The sergeant had been driving in Braille Street, Sta Venera when he stopped after seeing some people in a heated argument. As he intervened, some youths who were involved in the incident stole his private Peugeot 306.

It was found a short time later in Triq il-Fatati, Hamrun, having been set on fire and extensively damaged. The blaze was extinguished by the fire brigade. 

The police are questioning two men in connection with the case.
