The man alleged to have stabbed his estranged wife six times in a domestic fight in Birkirkara on Thursday was arraigned yesterday and charged with attempted murder.

Eleno Cassar 43, of Birkirkara, denied trying to kill his estranged wife Charmaine, 41, and seriously injuring her 66-year-old mother, Therese Busuttil with a penknife at Mrs Busuttil’s home. He was remanded in custody.

A court had recently ordered Mr Cassar not to come in contact with his wife. The victim suffered stab wounds in her neck, chest and back.

In the arraignment Mr Cassar also denied the illegal possession of a knife and breaching bail conditions.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli ordered that the accused be examined by a psychiatrist.
