A man who allegedly stabbed and grievously injured his wife yesterday afternoon had been ordered by a court on May 3 not to talk to or approach his wife for a year.

Eleno Casar, 43 of Birkirkara, was remanded in custody today after having been accused of the attempted murder of his wife Carmen when he stabbed her several times in their residence in Birkirkara yesterday afternoon.

He was also accused of having injured her mother Theresa Busuttil.

Mr Cassar was also accused of being in illegal possession of a knife, of having on a number of occasions threatened Mrs Cassar and having broken bail conditions imposed on April 23 and May 3.

He is pleading not guilty.

The court ordered a psychiatric examination of the accused.
