Sannat, Nadur in cup final

Lions stay on course for double

Sannat Lions and Nadur Youngsters earned the right to contest the final of the GFA Cup following convincing wins over Għajnsielem and SK Victoria Wanderers respectively in the semi-finals.

Nadur hammered the Wanderers 6-0.

The Citizens had seen more of the ball in the initial stages before Nadur opened the scoring in the 11th minute from a penalty, awarded for a foul by keeper Franklin Vella on Anthony Portelli and converted by the same Portelli.

The Youngsters doubled their lead on 25 minutes with an excellent strike by in-form forward Claudio Antunes.

SK Victoria Wanderers failed to stage a reaction and Nadur duly capitalised as goals from Anthony Portelli (53) and Antunes (55) early in the second half put them 4-0 up. Christian Debono stretched Nadur’s lead further after some poor defending by the Wanderers and Anthony Portelli sealed the issue with his team’s sixth nine minutes from time.

Champions Sannat maintained their hopes of a double this season with a 4-0 win over Għajnsielem.

The match was quite interesting in the first period with the Blacks looking the more motivated side on the day.

Sannat moved ahead after 24 minutes through Chris Camilleri who surprised keeper Richard Sammut.

Għajnsielem were denied an equaliser by Sannat’s Adrian Parnis who made some fine saves, particularly from attempts by Thiago dos Santos.

Sannat doubled their lead through Eric Nwankwo and Camilleri killed the Blacks’ hopes soon after with a lob from the distance.

Sannat scored their fourth on 74 minutes with a header by John Camilleri who hit home from an inviting cross by Chris Camilleri.
