QPR’s nervous wait to discover if their promotion to the Premier League has been reversed is set to be extended after it was announced a tribunal hearing verdict expected today had been delayed.
QPR were confirmed as the on-field winners of the second-tier Championship following a 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday.
But they face the prospect of a points deduction that could drop them out of the top two automatic promotion places and into the playoffs on charges relating to the signing of Argentinian midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in 2009.
An FA statement said: “It was originally indicated that the decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on the charges against QPR concerning Alejandro Faurlin and on any sanction, if appropriate, would be announced by 4pm on Friday, May 6 if possible.
“This will not now happen. A decision will be announced as soon as possible thereafter.”
The FA’s statement created further uncertainty, not just for QPR but for those clubs in and around the play-off positions, with the final round of regular season Championship league matches due to take place tomorrow.
