Veteran Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero has signed a one-year contract extension at Juventus, the club confirmed yesterday.

The new deal will mean the 36-year-old will take his time at the Turin club into a remarkable 19th year, having joined Juventus in 1993 from Padova.

A statement from Juventus read: “Juventus Football Club announces it has renewed the contract of Alessandro Del Piero.

“The new agreement signed today by club president Andrea Agnelli and the player is valid until June 30, 2012.”

Del Piero’s previous deal was due to end in the summer.

“I’m enjoying myself, I’m happy to be here today as it’s what I wanted for next year,” said Del Piero.

“It wasn’t difficult to reach an agreement because there wasn’t much to discuss.”

The Bianconeri captain has made more than 660 appearances for the club and holds the all-time goalscoring record at Juve with 283 goals.

Del Piero has scored seven league goals in 30 appearances this season.

A World Cup-winning player for Italy in 2006, Del Piero has won five Serie A titles, four Italian Supercups and one Champions League crown with Juventus.
