Sitecom has launched Cloud Security, a new security functionality which protects all the devices in a home network against cybercrime when browsing the internet. Sitecom Cloud Security is integrated in the new Pure E-motion X-series 2.0 modem routers.
The Rotterdam-based company said it has developed this unique security technology in cooperation with SurfRight, a developer of smart security solutions, to protect all the devices in a home network against cybercrime whilst surfing the internet.
A survey amongst 6,000 European consumers shows that, although 97 per cent of the respondents have a virus scanner installed on their computer, 49 per cent of them do not feel fully protected against cybercrime. Also, end users do not only use their notebook or desktop PC to surf the internet, but also their iPad, smartphone or games console.
The Cloud Security is integrated in the modem router, so users can safely surf the internet with any device which is connected to a home network, including laptops, tablets, game consoles, media players and smartphones.
Malicious websites will be recognised by Sitecom’s servers and blocked by the modem router.
This is also true of unsolicited advertisements. Users will also be protected against downloading files that are infected with viruses, as well as against fraudulent websites which try to get hold of their personal details.
An important advantage of this system is that it does not require any special software for the users to be protected.
The company said this is not a replacement for, but rather an addition to antivirus software. It does not register which sites are visited by users and data is not saved or used for commercial purposes.
