A man has today filed a Constitutional application claiming breach of human rights.

Paul Caruana, had been jailed for three years following an appeal in July 2006 which confirmed a judgement given following a trial by jury.

Mr Caruana claimed that while in prison, he was subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment by facility officials through the denial of medical care he required.

He had also been forced to take medicine he did not need and was subjected to other abuse and cruelty, including of a mental nature.

Mr Caruana asked the Constitutional court to declare that he had been treated inhumanely and asked for compensation.

Lawyers Jose Herrera and William Cuschieri signed the application.
