Agents pursue interest in Denni, Fenech
Valletta president confirms Amoruso talks
Valletta players Denni and Ryan Fenech have caught the eye of foreign agents who have strong links with clubs in Europe and Asia.
Contacted by The Times yesterday, Valletta president Victor Sciriha confirmed that he has received preliminary enquiries about 27-year-old Brazilian forward Denni and Fenech, 25.
“Denni is being monitored by Red Star Belgrade while a club from South Korea have requested in-formation on Ryan Fenech,” Sciriha said.
The Times has also learnt that Jordi Cruyff, the technical director of AEK Larnaca, is mulling a move for Valletta and Malta midfielder Roderick Briffa.
Cruyff, who had a one-year spell with Valletta before calling time on his playing career last summer, indicated his interest in Briffa during a short visit to Malta last month.
AEK Larnaca, who are led by former City coach Ton Caanen, have another Valletta player on their books, Njongo Priso.
The Cameroonian winger joined AEK Larnaca on a one-year loan deal but the Cypriot club have an option to make his move permanent.
Meanwhile, a report on Italian football website calciomercato.it claimed that former Atalanta striker Nicola Amoruso may play for Valletta in the Champions League next season.
Sciriha, the Valletta supremo, confirmed that he has had initial talks with Amoruso’s agent over the possibility of signing the former Juve forward.
“I’ve spoken with the agent of Nicola Amoruso but we are still far from reaching a conclusion,” Sciriha said.
At a news conference last weekend, Sciriha said that Valletta, the newly-crowned Malta champions, are looking to sign some top-level foreign players to strengthen the club’s chances of advancing in the Champions League next season.
